Per usual, I printed it out, got my highlighter out and went to work. That was followed by later listening to Deep Reverence (Big Sean ft. I had anxiety. A little bit of depression. Just being locked in here. I just wasn’t there. I checked out. Games 2,3,4, I wasn’t there…. Shout-out to the people that were in my corner, that gave me words. They helped big time, help get me right, [get] me back in great spirits. I can’t thank them enough.” On back of yet another act of police brutality against a Black man, I felt some type of way this week as conversations weighed heavy on my mind, particularly as many also struggle with COVID 19, Hurricane Laura, fires, personal issues, etc. I pray that we continue to be empathetic and continue dialoguing with one another. Oh yeah that article, it was Forbes showing love to one of Amherst’s Finest, Christina Guilbeau… “Hopelessness is a feeling many who struggle with mental health - including myself - know well. Hope is the audacity to believe that after everything you have been through, there is more ahead of you. It’s the courage to trust that as long as you’re still breathing, you have not missed out on what was meant for you.’ Hopebound, or being ‘bound toward hope’ is meant to illustrate the ongoing journey of healing - not a linear one, but one with ups and downs and bumps in the road.
